NEXUS
a connection, a place for people, an opening. A space can be dramatically changed with color or light. Color and light create a unique interpretation of space. Light can change hue or exposure that can inspire new feelings of a certain space. To exploit the change in space based upon color and light I reinterpreted color and light rays into line drawings. The line drawings created a unique combination of spaces only defined by the crossing of color and light. These line drawings were then formed into three-dimensional models. The three-dimensional models were created with string to interpret the lines into the third dimension. Using string, the spaces were defined in combination with one another and adapted into a full tensile model. The autonomy of architectural form from this model inspired a primarily tensile structure that defines spaces based on datum and hierarchy. The dining spaces and entrances were combined to be the most paramount elements within the building. All of the public spaces are combined through an extended front lobby space.
The study of light and color developed a unique look into how the connection of space also inspired the connection of people. The patrons within the Urban Food Hub are inspired to connect to one another as they all reside in the same lobby. The connection of people is why food hubs exist. Humans always desire connection through others. The OKC Food Hub will inspire connections between people to encourage growth in the surrounding community. Downtown Oklahoma City is full of unique communities that can join together at the food hub. Oklahoma City is home to many unique building, but none are designed as primarily tensile structures. The OKC Food Hub creates a unique addition to the skyline of the City to draw patrons in for connection.
